Tribest Sedona Express (S6780/P6280): To Buy or Not to Buy?

Tribest Sedona Express

If you would like to buy a high-quality food dehydrator but countertop space is at a premium in your kitchen, you should definitely check out the Tribest Sedona Express Dehydrator. Designed to save valuable kitchen space, this sleek 11-tray dehydrator comes in two models: the SDE-S6780, which has stainless steel trays, and the SDE-P6280 which has BPA-free plastic trays. Both models come complete with a variety of features that you won't find on your average dehydrator, and some of these are not even available on other Sedona dehydrators. In this review, we take a look at features that set the Tribest Sedona Express S6780 and P6280 apart from other Sedona models, as well as features that they share with the other dehydrators sold by Tribest Life in the United States and Canada at the time of writing (September 2016).

How the Express Model Differs from Other Tribest Sedona Dehydrators

The Tribest Sedona Express is better for kitchens with limited countertop space. The Tribest Sedona Express has a much sleeker design than the other Tribest Sedona dehydrators that are on the market at the time of writing. But that doesn't mean this compact dehydrator has no space inside: with its 11 trays, it provides 10 square feet of drying space in total, which is only 2.5 square feet less than what you get with the Tribest Sedona Classic and the Tribest Sedona Combo.

The Tribest Sedona Express has only one fan. The Tribest Sedona Classic and the Tribest Sedona Combo have dual fans, which means that you can save energy by running the dehydrator with only one of the 300-watt fans when you are dehydrating a small batch of food. For large batches, both fans can be set to operate simultaneously. With the Tribest Sedona Express, you won't have this option as it only has one (470-watt) fan.

It has a wider temperature range than Tribest's other dehydrators. Like the Sedona Classic and the Sedona Combo, the Sedona Express comes with an adjustable thermostat, but it has a wider temperature range than the other models. In fact, with settings ranging from 77°F to 167°F, it gives you even more control over the drying temperature than some of the best Excalibur dehydrators. What's more, the Sedona Express uses the same Two-Stage Sequential Temperature (TST) technology as the Sedona Combo. This means you can program your dehydrator to start at a specific temperature to kick start the drying process, and the machine will later switch to a lower temperature of your choice (RAW mode) to finish off the job. Thanks to this neat feature, your foods will dehydrate faster.

What all Sedona Dehydrators* Have in Common

*Includes those actively marketed and sold by Tribest Life in the United States and Canada at the time of writing (September 2016), i.e., Tribest Sedona Express (S6780/P6280), Sedona Classic (S9000/P9000) and Sedona Combo (S9150/P9150)

You can choose between stainless steel trays and BPA-free plastic trays. Regardless of which Sedona model you pick, you can have either stainless steel trays or BPA-free plastic trays. If you decide to buy the Tribest Sedona Express, you will get the stainless steel trays if you select S6780 model and the plastic trays if you go for the P6280 model. It is also worth noting that as plastic is cheaper than high-quality stainless steel, the SD-P6280 usually (but not always) comes with a lower price tag (you can compare current Amazon prices for these two models here (or here if you live in Canada).

All Sedona dehydrators all have a built-in timer with a maximum setting of 99 hours. A built-in timer allows you to set your dehydrator to run for a specific amount of time, and once the time is up, the appliance will automatically shut itself off. All of the latest Sedona dehydrators available in the United States and Canada at the time writing have a buit-in timer with a maximum setting of 99 hours. By contrast, many other popular dehydrators have a maximum setting of 26 hours (see Tribest Sedona vs Excalibur Dehydrators).

All Sedona models have a see-through door made of glass. Some people like to watch what is happening inside their dehydrator without having to open the door. For those folks, there are plenty of options as many dehydrators today come with a see-through door. In most of these cases, however, the see-through door is made of plastic, which may be a turn-off for some people. In that regard, Tribest Sedona dehydrators stand out as they all come with a clear door made of glass. Of course, you have to keep in made that the housing is still made of plastic, and in case of the SD-P6280, also the trays are plastic. (If you have a high budget and are looking for a dehydrator with stainless steel housing and a glass window, you might want to check out the Excalibur EXC10EL-10 Dehydrator.)
