Banana Baobab Smoothie

This smoothie combines the classic flavors of apple juice, orange and banana with the more exotic taste of baobab fruit powder, while the ground flaxseed in this smoothie supplies your body with healthy omega-3 fatty acids. To create a new culinary experience for every day of the week, replace the orange with another fruit each day after Day 1. Some great substitutes for the orange include kiwifruit, mandarines, pears, apples, pineapple and berries. Tip: If you have trouble finding baobab powder in the health food stores in your area, you can always order it through Amazon here.
Ingredients
- 1 1/2 cups organic apple juice
- 1 small organic banana
- 1 orange (Day 1)
- 1 Tbsp baobab powder
- 1 tsp ground flaxseed
- Scant 1/2 cup crushed ice
Directions
- Peel and cut the banana into big chunks. Peel the orange, and remove the seeds if desired.
- Put the apple juice, banana chunks, peeled orange, baobab powder, ground flaxseed and crushed ice in a large-capacity blender. If you have a Vitamix 5200 or another high-powered blender that can handle ice cubes, you can also use 8 whole ice cubes instead of 1/2 cup crushed ice.
- Process until smooth. If the texture is too thick for your liking, add a bit of water and blend a few more seconds. Serve immediately.
