Gingery Fruit Smoothie

This week's smoothie recipe uses bananas, oranges and ginger to create an invigorating smoothie that will make your taste buds dance. Chia seeds, loaded with anti-inlammatory omega-3 fatty acids, are added to the blend to further boost its nutritional value.
The basic recipe below uses banana for creaminess, but you can also replace the banana with any of the other ingredients in the Tweak It! sections provided at the bottom of this page (this box allows you to create 7 variations of the basic recipe, one for each day of the week).
Ingredients
- 1 small orange
- 1 banana
- 1 half-inch knob of fresh ginger
- 2 tsp chia seeds
- 1/2 cup crushed ice
- About 1 1/2 cups water
- Honey, to taste
Directions
- Peel the orange, banana and ginger root, and chop the peeled ginger. If you're using another ingredient from the Tweak It! box to replace the banana, peel, pit and rinse the ingredient if needed.
- Put the orange, banana, chopped ginger, chia seeds, crushed ice and water in a Vitamix or another high-powered blender. Blend until smooth, about 1 minute.
- Check the consistency and taste. If the smoothie is too thick or not sweet enough for your liking, add a little bit of water or honey, and blend again.
- Pour into glasses, and drink immediately.
