Immune-Boosting Superfood Smoothie Featuring Elderberry Syrup

This refreshing smoothie pairs red grape juice with organic plums, both of which are known for their strong antioxidant properties. The pumpkin seeds in this smoothie deliver plenty of zinc, a trace mineral that helps keep your immune system on guard. The immune-enhancing power of this superfood smoothie is further boosted by elderberry syrup, a popular home remedy against colds and flu.

Tweak It!

To keep things interesting, tweak the basic recipe below by replacing the orange (Day 1) with one of the other ingredients provided in the Tweak It! box at the bottom of this page (see Days 2 to 7). The Tweak It! box contains seven ingredients, one for each day of the week.

Raspberry Grape Juice Smoothie

Ingredients

  • 3 organic plums
  • 1 small banana
  • 1 small orange (Day 1*)
  • 1 Tbsp pumpkin seeds
  • 1/2 cup crushed ice
  • 1 tsp elderberry syrup [buy it here]
  • 1 cup red grape juice

Directions

  • Rinse and pit the plums, peel the banana and orange, and crush the pumpkin seeds using a pestle and mortar. If you are using another ingredient from the Tweak It! box below to replace the orange, peel and core the fruit as needed.
  • Place all the ingredients in a high-powered blender in the order listed above.
  • Secure the lid, turn on the blender, and process until smooth.
  • Pour into glasses, garnish as desired, and enjoy!
