Muffin Pans without Non-Stick Teflon Coating
For anyone concerned about the safety or durability of muffin pans with a non-stick Teflon coating, the simplest solution is to get a muffin pan without Teflon (also known as PTFE)! If you are on the lookout for a Teflon-free muffin pan, here are a couple of products you might want to check out:
Glass Muffin Cups
As health-conscious baking enthusiasts are growing leery of the safety of non-stick surfaces, glass bakeware – such as glass muffin pans, glass bundt cake pans and glass pie/tart pans and plates – may become increasingly popular. If you are skeptical about the safety of your old non-stick muffin pan and would like to replace it with a non-toxic alternative made of glass, check out Libbey's cupcake and muffin cup set (pictured on the right). This charming set has 12 muffin cups made of heat-resistant glass, and as an added bonus, each cup comes with a plastic lid, so you can use the cups for storing foods as well.
Cast Iron Muffin Pan
If you think cast iron is just for frying pans and Dutch ovens, think again! From cast iron pie pans to cast iron tartlet pans to cast iron muffin pans, there are today plenty of options out there for avid bakers who are looking for non-stick pans that don't contain Teflon. On the downside, seasoning a cast iron muffin pan after every use takes time, plus you may have to grease the pan anyways before pouring in the batter to prevent sticking. But for many baking enthusiasts, that's a small price to pay for a durable, Teflon-free muffin pan such as Lodge's cast iron muffin pan (pictured on the right).
Stainless Steel Muffin Pan
A high-quality 100% stainless steel muffin pan, such as the one from Fox Run pictured on the right, is likely to be more durable than glass muffin cups, which can break easily, and it is much lighter than a cast iron muffin pan. On the downside, a muffin pan made from 18/0 stainless steel is not completely rust-resistant. What's more, in order to prevent baked goods from sticking to this Teflon-free muffin tin, you will have to either lightly oil the cups or use paper liners.
